Description

VODKA HASH TRAIN 2012

Tour descriptionTrans-Siberian-Train
Join the incredible train ride with the famous "VODKA HASH TRAIN"
or also know
n as the Trans-Siberian-Railway, all the way from Moscow to Beijing! Ofcourse beside some sightseeing we will have at least some hash runs in Moscow, Lake Baikal area, Ulaan Bataar / Mongolia and Beijing / China. We plan to start in Moscow June 9, 2012 and will arrive in Beijing approx. June 28, 2012 so you have also some time in Beijing.

It's NOT just a train ride – beside several nights on the train, we have most overnight stops in hotels or traditional accommodation. Start for us will be in Moscow (1-2 nights), Yekaterinburg (1-2 nights), Lake Baikal (2-3 nights), Ulaan Baatar (2 nights) and Beijing (1-2 nights).
For more details and exact timetable, please check the trip details on this website!

Our Vodka Train will start in Moscow and beside visiting Red Square, GUM and a couple of other highlights we also join the Moscow Hash. Leaving Moscow by night train direction south-east to Kazan. The capital of the Republic Tatarstan has approx. 1,110.000 inhabitants and since spring 2005 opened Europes largest mosque.
Visit also the official Kazan website. In Kazan we will stay approx. 10-14 hours - time enough to visit also the beach side and before we catch our next train which will bring us to Yekaterinburg we still have time for a pub crawl or spontanious live hash.
Arriving in Yekaterinburg next days evening we will have a dinner and stay in the typical former Soviet Hotels.
Once the hang over hopefully will not make you stay in bed all day, we catch a bus to the official continental border of Europe and Asia. Having lunch on our way back through the city of Yekaterinburg and we visit the grave of the Zar and his family at the other end of Yekaterinburg. Going back to the Hotel and see if we have still enough time are still in the mood to do a hash run.

Our next stop will be in Irkutzk after another 3 days on the Trans-Siberian-Railway. Arriving in Irkutzk we continue by bus / mini-bus down to the Lake Baikal. This will be a bus ride of approx. 4-5 hours, since Lake Baikal is still about 400 Kilometer away from Irkutzk. On the way we will have lunch in one of Siberians typical Restaurants along the road. Reaching Lake Baikal we cross by Ferry to the Island Olichon where we will spend 2-3 days enjoying the pure nature. Beside not getting disturbed by mobile phones, the noise polutions of air planes we have enough time to rent a bike or join a wonderfull boat trip on Lake Baikal. Plenty of forrest trails makes this area also perfect place to do one or two hash runs on our own! We may can try to bring the locals into this as well ;-)
After being in such a remote area its hard to go back to Irkutzk where the train to Mongolia will wait for us. This time will be much shorter on the train and we arrive in Ulaan Baatar early in the morning. We will stay 2 days in Ulaan Baatar. The first day is free for and we will meet in the evening for dinner and may be a get together with the Ulaan Baatar Hash.
Now our trip slowly comes to its end – after one more train ride we reach our final destination Beijing/China. Spending about 2 days in Beijing and join the Beijing Hash House Harriers and time enough to visit Forbidden City and Great Wall as well.

Accommodation / Hotels:
During our trip we will stay in different kind of accommodation, B&B as well as Hotels and some nights also on the train.
For Moscow we will stay in a Hotel downtown Moscow, Yekaterinburg the famous Hotel from former Soviet times, Irkutzk (Lake Baikal) 1 and 2 bed room cottages with sauna / banja, Ulaan Baatar 4 star Hotel, Beijing 4 or 5 star Hotel. Beside this we will sleep also a couple of nights on the train in 2 and 4 bed compartements.
